ABOUT THE TREATMENT

What is Micrograft Hair Regrowth Therapy?

  • Your own skin tissue, finely processed, is injected into the scalp
  • Generally a single session per year is sufficient
  • Suitable for both men and women

This treatment addresses thinning hair and scalp ageing by injecting your own skin tissue, finely fragmented using a dedicated device, into the scalp. Treatment effect is generally assessed after a single session per year, and both men and women can receive it.

A skin sample of approximately 3 mm is taken from a healthy hair-bearing area. The dermis and follicular tissue, which contain growth factors, are fragmented to prepare an injectable solution. Injecting this into the areas of concern promotes the formation of new capillaries in the dermis, and hair growth through improved blood flow is anticipated.

Please note: if there is almost no hair remaining in the treatment area, improvement cannot be expected.
How micrograft therapy works

Tissue is taken from a healthy hair-bearing area, processed using a dedicated technique, and injected into the scalp.

Harvesting the skin sample

The skin sample is taken from a hair-bearing area at the back of the neck.

Healing of the harvest site

The harvest site immediately after the procedure, and immediately after suture removal (one week later).

Q & A

Frequently asked questions

Is the procedure painful?
Local anaesthetic is used when the skin sample is taken, so there is temporary pain from the anaesthetic injection itself. During the injections we use a vibrating device to reduce discomfort, and nerve block anaesthesia is available for patients who are concerned.
How soon will I notice a difference?
Some patients notice hair standing up more and feeling more supple within about two weeks. Results vary between individuals, but hair growth is generally noticed over about three to six months.
How many sessions are needed?
Treatment effect is generally assessed after a single session. Additional sessions may be carried out depending on the patient's wishes and the doctor's assessment.
How long does the effect last?
Because dermal cells from healthy follicles are transplanted, long-term maintenance is anticipated where hair growth occurs. However, other factors may affect the outcome, and results vary between individuals.
Can it be combined with PRP hair therapy?
Yes. PRP hair therapy is possible from one week after the micrograft procedure, and may reinforce its effect.
Are there side effects or downtime?
Temporary swelling or bruising may occur at the harvest and injection sites, usually settling within a few days to one week. Sutures at the harvest site are removed one week after the procedure.
Can women receive this treatment?
Yes. It can be used for female pattern hair loss (FPHL). We welcome enquiries from both men and women.
Is there an age restriction?
We do not provide hair loss treatment to patients under the age of 20.
What if I do not feel enough benefit?
Results vary between individuals. Treatment effect is generally assessed after one session, and further treatment can be considered in discussion with the doctor.
May I continue taking oral hair loss medication after treatment?
Yes. It may help support the hair growth effect.
In which cases can no benefit be expected?
If there is almost no hair remaining in the treatment area, improvement cannot be expected. The degree of progression and individual constitution also affect how results appear.
